(KWNO) State Senator and candidate for governor Paul Gazelka discussed the early days of his campaign during an interview on KWNO’s In the Know Tuesday morning.
Gazelka officially entered the field on Sept. 8. Gazelka criticized Gov. Tim Walz, saying he was leading the state in the wrong direction in a number of areas.
“Highest on the list frankly is public safety, not appreciating the police and the work that they do, and now in Minneapolis and St. Paul people defiantly do not feel safe,” Gazelka said.
Gazelka is not the only Republican looking to win the governor’s mansion. State Senator Michelle Bensen and former State Sen. Scott Jensen are also running.
Gazelka says his experience as majority leader separates him from Bensen and Jensen. He also described himself as a collaborator.
“People want to know that their government is going to work,” said Gazelka. “For Republicans, they want to know you’re going to stand for the principals they believe in. I can do both and that’s the only way Republicans are going to win in Minnesota.”
