WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-The Winona Fine Arts Commission’s grant program has received unanimous approval from the Winona City Council.
The program offers at least $500 relief grants to local artists and non-profits. Those applying for the grants must be full-time Winona residents or have an organization based in Winona.
“This is something that a lot of cities offer for artists and for the working creatives in their communities,” Second Ward Councilwoman Eileen Moeller said. “I’m glad that we can offer it as well.”
“I look forward to seeing all of the new art and seeing performances and seeing what’s going to come about from these very modestly priced grants,” said Third Ward Councilwoman Pam Eyden.
The Fine Arts Commission will only exceed their budget for this program of $3,000 if the demand warrants do so, according to the council agenda item. The commission would award additional funds from the Blue Heron Project, which has $1,300 available.
