(KWMN)- The #1 Cochrane-Fountain City Pirates (9-0) defeated the Whitehall Norse (6-4) 35-7 to finish undefeated for the second consecutive season.
The Pirates scored on their very first drive, but it took some trial and error. After fighting off a promising Norse drive and forcing the Punt, Cochrane-Fountain City needed 60 yards and had 8 minutes to do so. The first play from scrimmage was a 1-yard loss from Aidan Lisowski, who then more than made up for it with a 19 yard surge the next play. The Pirates marched down the field and chipped it in from the 9-yard line on a touchdown run from Maverick Arneson for the opening score. After two consecutive poor drives, the pirates found the endzone again in the final 2 minutes of the first half, with a leaping 1-yard touchdown run from Aidan Lisowski on his 14th carry of the game.
The Pirates started the second half off with a 70-yard touchdown drive, in which Parker Kujak connected with Dylan Hager for a 16 yard pass, and then later for a 12-yard pass. Following a 15-yard penalty, Aidan Lisowski took it himself from the 6-yard line for the score. Cochrane-Fountain City then forced a punt behind a stout defense, before Lisowski scored his third TD of the night from the 3rd yard line. But Lisowski wasn’t finished, as he then picked off Whitehall for his first INT of the season, and then ripped off a 25-yard run to set the Pirates up inside the 5. Parker Kujak kept in on the QB sneak, before walking in for the final TD of the game. Kujak then also intercepted the Norse to close out the game and the season, as the Pirates finish undefeated for the second time in their school’s history.
The WIAA playoffs start next Friday, Oct. 23rd, and 99.3 The Fan Winona will have those games available live.
