(MNN)-Minnesota had a much quieter mosquito season this year, thanks largely to drought conditions. Alex Carlson with the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District says mosquito numbers and mosquito-borne disease cases were below average. Mosquito season is winding down, although warmer weather could bring a few out this weekend. Carlson says mosquitoes generally become inactive when overnight temperatures drop below 50 degrees. However, he reminds Minnesotans that ticks remain active until a hard freeze, so people should continue taking precautions outdoors this fall.
