Changing weather forecast alters Highway 52 detour schedule at I-90 interchange

(KWNO)-Minnesota Department of Transportation contractors are changing the schedule on the Highway 52 detour at Interstate 90 to run through Wednesday night, Sept. 30 to finish work on the I-90 bridge and paving on Highway 52.

The weather forecast indicates no rain in the construction area on Wednesday, so the current detour on Highway 52 will continue to 9 p.m., Wednesday instead of opening on Tuesday night and closing again on Thursday, which was the previous plan. The detour started early Monday night and continues.

During the closures, all of Highway 52 will be closed near I-90, including access to the flyover bridge for southbound Highway 52 to eastbound I-90. Westbound I-90 to northbound Highway 52 will be open.

During that time, construction crews will remove temporary bridge work on the I-90 westbound bridge over Highway 52, paint the bridge rails and beams, complete the final pavement on northbound and southbound Highway 52 and install temporary striping.

Detours

Northbound Highway 52 motorists should go north at Olmsted County Road 7 north of Chatfield to I-90 and merge onto westbound I-90. Use Exit 217 to go northbound on Highway 52 to Rochester.

Southbound Highway 52 motorists should exit onto Highway 63 southbound in Rochester, travel south to I-90 at Stewartville. Merge onto eastbound I-90 and exit at Exit 224 at Eyota. Travel south on Olmsted Co Rd 7 to Highway 52 north of Chatfield.

Eastbound I-90 motorists who want to travel south on Highway 52 will exit at Exit 224 at Eyota. Travel south on Olmsted Co Rd 7 to Highway 52 north of Chatfield. Eastbound motorists who want to travel.

Westbound I-90 motorists exit at Exit 224 at Eyota to travel south on Highway 52. Travel south on Olmsted Co Rd 7 to Highway 52 north of Chatfield. To travel north on Highway 52, use Exit 217 onto northbound Highway 52.
