(KWNO)-Two speed feedback signs will be installed on roads in Winona. MnDOT received a safety grant that will pay for signs (also known as radar speed signs or driver feedback signs) on the northbound lane of Highway 61 and the northbound lane of Highway 43 next to current speed limit signs. Speed feedback signs are digital signs that use radar or laser technology to clock approaching drivers and display their speed in real time. Some of the signs blink an alert or flash a warning like ‘slow down.’
There is no cost to the City for the purchase or installation of the signs but the City will be responsible for maintenance such as replacing batteries. If the sign was damaged or impaired beyond repair, the City would not be obligated to replace the sign.
The City Council approved installation of the signs; Public Works Director Brian DeFrang said he doesn’t yet know when the signs will be installed.
