Geraldine “Gerri” R. Taylor, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28th while visiting family in Bettendorf, Iowa. Her celebration of life service will be held at 5:00pm on Friday, September 11th at Pleasant Valley Church in Winona, Minnesota where the visitation will follow.
Gerri was born on March 14, 1932, in Nebraska to Leone and Henry Hubers. Gerri married her late husband, Jack Taylor, in Estes Park, Colorado in 1953. Later in life, she earned her master’s degree in education, continuing her lifelong passion for learning and working with children.
She was deeply involved in her community and her church. She taught elementary education for several years and was an active member of the YMCA, where she also volunteered her time reading to children. She faithfully served in the children’s ministry at Pleasant Valley Church and found great joy in sharing her time and talents with others.
In her free time, Gerri enjoyed card making, embroidery, quilting, being pen pals with students at the local elementary school, attending events with her fellow red hat ladies, collecting quips and quotes, participating in exercise classes at the YMCA, and most of all, spending time family and friends. She spoke fondly of the many memories she shared with her close group of friends, affectionately known as “The Dizzy Dozen.”
Gerri was proud of her Dutch heritage and, even more so, proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved the Lord and was a good and faithful servant. Gerri lived a full and meaningful life to the very end.
She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her love, wisdom, laughter, and presence will be deeply missed, but the memories she created and the lives she touched will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Taylor, son Todd Taylor, parents Leone and Henry, and sister Connie. Those left to honor her memory include: her daughter Tamara, granddaughters Shannon Carr (Bobby), Taylor, and Nikki Collins (Travis), several great-grandchildren, her sister Edie Dreiling, and her dear niece DiAnne.
