Winona PD will not reinstall Flock cameras

(KWNO)-The Winona Police Department announced Wednesday it will not reinstall Flock cameras in the city, citing “growing concerns about trust in policing.” The city’s eight flock cameras were stolen on or around August 1. Flock cameras automatically read license plates and capture other vehicle information and are used by many police and law enforcement agencies nationwide.

A statement from Winona PD highlights the use of Flock cameras in solving numerous cases and helping locate a homicide suspect. It also states the cameras were never misused.

However, Winona PD says community trust is the “foundation of effective policing” and maintaining that trust is at the core of this decision.
