(KWMN)- Winona Cotter (22-3) took on Pine Island (14-10) at Mayo Field in Rochester for the 1AA Section Quarterfinal on Monday.
The Ramblers fielding kept everything tight in the first two innings with multiple one-two-three innings. While they could not take advantage of Will Peterson hit early, it felt like the Ramblers kept everything in front of them.
The Panthers got hot during the third inning, earning two hits and three walks to put together two runs at the top of third inning. Cotter responded with two runs from Rawson Sullivan and Peterson after a Dane Guzzo RBI single to right field and a KJ Kreidermacher sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning to tie it 2-2.
Vince Frisch, after allowing two runs in the third, achieved four strikeouts in the next five at-bats between the fourth and fifth inning to shut the water off on the Panthers. He would finish the contest with four hits, four walks, and six strikeouts to pick up the win.
Peterson brought the consistency on the offensive end, earning three hits on four attempts with one run from the third inning. But the Ramblers need another batter to step up in the sixth inning to take their first lead.
Donny Bauers advanced to second base off an error in the infield to give Cotter a scoring runner within the next few at-bats. Centerfielder Lewi Shira entered the plate. After an outside pitch, He connected on a RBI shot to right field to help Bauers advance home for the lead taking run 3-2.
Macalister Nisbit came into the mound for the final inning. He finished with two strikeouts and a fly-out to Devin Korder to advance the Ramblers in the championship bracket of sections.
The Ramblers await the winner of Lake City and Rochester Lourdes for their semifinal opponent in Stewartville on Saturday, May 30th.
