(KWMN)- The Rushford-Peterson Trojans (12-10) host the Cotter Ramblers (16-3) in a Three Rivers East showdown.
Rushford-Peterson sits three games behind Cotter in the East standings, at 5-4 in the conference. The Trojans have won three of their last five, including a hard fought 2-1 over the second place La Crescent-Hokah Lancers. Rushford-Peterson got back into the win column after falling 1-14 to Plainview Elgin-Millville, with a 4-1 win over Goodhue at home.
Ayden Garett opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly that scored Grant DeGeorge. DeGeorge then added a run after an RBI single int he third. On the mound, Cayden Lea picked up the win for Rushford-Peterson with a six-and-two-third outing, taking a no-hitter into the top of the sixth inning. Lea struck out seven enroute for the win.
The Ramblers had their seven-game winning streak snapped over the weekend in game one of the tournament at Poppitz field. falling 2-6 to Holy Family. It was the Ramblers first loss since April 25th. Cotter followed it up with a 7-4 win against Rochester Lourdes to salvage the split on the day.
In that win against Rochester, the top three in the lineup racked up a combined five hits and three runs scored. Rawson Sullivan went two-for-four with one run scored, Will Peterson had a single. and Donny Bauers had two runs scored with an RBI on two hits, including a double. Vince Frisch also went two-for-three at the plate. Frisch also picked up the win on the mound, striking out five in six innings.
The Ramblers and Trojans met once already this season, when Rushford-Peterson traveled to Winona to face the Ramblers at home. Cotter took the first meeting 9-1. Dane Guzzo, Devin Korder, and Moses O’Brien combined for six hits and two RBI with three runs scored. Donny Baures, KJ Kreidermacher, and Rawson Sullivan all picked up doubles, with Baures picking up two.
Cayden Lea scored the only run of the game by the Trojans, after a fielder’s choice on the ground from Grant DeGeorge.
