Body recovered from Mississippi River in Winona

(KWNO)-The body of an adult female was recovered from the Mississippi River near Lock and Dam 6 on Wednesday morning.

Courtesy WCSOAccording to the Winona County Sheriff’s Office, the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office contacted Winona County Dispatch around 7:45 a.m. to report a body in the water.  Winona County Emergency Management, the Winona County Dive and Rescue Team, Winona Fire Department, and the Minnesota Air Rescue Team (MART) responded. Winona firefighters rappelled down the dam and secured the body. An autopsy will be completed and the identity of the woman released after next of kin has been notified.

Seventy-two-year-old Patricia Sweningson of Winona has been missing since March 14. She was last seen near Levee Park in Winona, according to a WPD spokesperson. Another Winona woman, 33-year-old Bridget Martinson, had been missing since April 6. She was found in Ramsey County on Wednesday, according to a WPD spokesperson.
