Cherre Pye, age 80 of Winona passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Winona Health.
Cherre was born on August 18, 1945 in Winona to John and Audrey (Williams) Grams. She graduated from Cotter High School in Winona. She went on to receive a teaching degree from Winona State College. She taught 3rd grade at Jefferson Elementary School in Winona for the majority of her career, touching the lives of many students.
Cherre married David Pye on August 18, 1981. They blended their families and added a son together. Cherre loved her children and grandchildren in her kind, gentle way. She often attended their school and sporting events.
Cherre enjoyed traveling, planting flowers, her time volunteering in the Glady D. Miller Gift Shop at Winona Health and going to the Elks on Wednesdays and Fridays.
She will be remembered for her gentle presence, her unwavering love, and the quiet, steady way she cared for those around her.
Cherre is survived by her husband; children: Tiffany (Scott) Schindeldecker, Jonathan Pye, Sandee (Gary) Lockwood, and Steve (Cindy) Pye all of Winona. Grandchildren: Emelia and Logan Schindeldecker, Kelsey Papenfuss, Brody (Melissa) Papenfuss, McKenna (Pierce) Lind, Teghan Grulkowski (Grant), Roman Grulkowski, Kaylee (Chadd), and Macy Pye. Great grandchildren: Grace and Violet Papenfuss and Callahan Lind. Brother John Grams, sister Lisa Grams, sisters-in-law Carol Hayes, VeeAnn Patzner and Mary Pye
She was proceeded in death by her parents, infant son Bryan, and sister Diane Walters.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026 from 4-6pm at Hoff Funeral Home, Winona.
Memorials may be directed to Ready Set School, Winona Health Foundation, or to a charity of choice.
Hoff Celebration of Life Center is assisting the family.
