(KWNO)-If the weather is favorable on Wednesday March 18, the City of Winona intends to burn brush piles in the oak savannah and prairie areas at the western end of the Bluff Traverse trail system beyond the Chickadee Circuit trail. The public may notice smoke and see spot fires, but the fire will be contained to the burn piles. The park and trail will be open to visitors during the brush pile burning.
The brush is from invasive species removal efforts in prior years and is being cleared to increase prairie habitat space and facilitate future restoration via prescribed burns. Some piles will be left for wildlife habitat.
