(KWMN)-The Winona Winhawks (3-9) look to start with a positive record in the new year, when they host the Faribault Falcons (5-6) at home.
The Winhawks started the new year right with a hard-fought win against Mankato East on the road, 56-52. The win marked Winona’s first victory since December 5th of last year. The Winhawks couldn’t keep the momentum for the next game unfortunately, falling in a border-battle with La Crosse Central, 35-70.
Ayanna Flowers led the Winhawks offensively, with 12 points and two made three-pointers. Brittany Lee followed with 9 points.
The Faribault Falcons are looking to correct course in the second half of the season. The Falcons had jumped out to a 5-1 start by December 5th, including a three game winning streak. Faribault slumped after, losing five of their next six. The Falcons also fell in their first game of the new year to St. Peter, 64-72. extending the losing streak to four.
In the game against St. Peter, Faribault was led by Amira Williams with 26 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double. She was followed by Kyleigh Berken and Baylee Gunderson, both with 12 points each.
