(MNN)-The race for Minnesota governor is wide open on the Democratic side with Governor Tim Walz ending his re-election campaign. But the GOP might have had a better chance of beating Walz than another Democratic candidate.
“I think Walz’s opponents were probably too successful in that they moved him out of electoral competition when he was a very vulnerable candidate. Now the Republican prospects are not necessarily as promising as they were before,” said Carleton College political analyst Steven Schier.
Schier says all the fraud allegations and investigations lessened Walz’s chances of winning a third term. The GOP hasn’t won a statewide office in Minnesota since Governor Tim Pawlenty’s re-election in 2006.
