(KWNO)-The 10 Days of Giving drive collected 294,859 pounds of food this year, a record-breaking haul. This year’s total was $133,470.71 in cash and 27,918 pounds of food. For tracking purposes, each dollar donated is counted as two pounds of food. This is the highest amount collected in the drive’s 37-year history.
The 10 Days of Giving drive is an annual community collaboration between Merchants Bank and Winona Volunteer Services to make sure no one in Winona County goes without each winter. Since 1989, the drive has collected more than five million pounds of food helping thousands of people. In addition to the Winona drive, other Merchants locations partner with their local food shelf in a similar effort.
