Myra K. Carlson, 83, of Winona, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025, at home, surrounded by her family.
Myra Kay was born on June 21, 1942, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Rosina (Schomberg) and Henry Wehrenberg. She graduated from Central High School.
She married Bruce O. Nustad, and together they raised three sons—Eric, Timothy, and Bruce Jr.—who were the light of her life. Myra and Bruce Sr. later divorced, and on September 3, 1981, she married Roger A. Carlson, with whom she shared many adventures and an expanded, loving family.
Myra retired from the Winona Area Public School District #861 after many years supporting students as a special education paraprofessional. She often said she learned more from her students than they did from her.
In retirement, Myra enjoyed adventures with her favorite travel partner, Roger, as well as watercolor painting, rubber stamp collecting, crafting, and knitting. She was also active with MMAM “Cards for a Cause”, Faith Lutheran Church, the Red Hat Minnies, the Winona Arts Center, and the Winona Area Retired Educators Association. Above all, Myra loved her role as “Grandma” and created countless cherished memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Myra will be deeply missed by sons: Eric (Christine Heineman) Nustad, Tim (Deborah) Nustad, and Bruce (Carissa) Nustad Jr.; bonus sons: James (Theresa) Carlson and Christopher (Angie) Carlson; grandchildren: Jacob (Angel), Rachel (Branden), Sarah, Alexander, Matthew, Jordan, Ethan, Anya, Caleb, Jayna, Josie, Brandon, Crystal, and April; great-grandchildren: River, North, Remi, and Theia; daughter-in-law: Janet Nustad; siblings: Alan (Pat) Wehrenberg, Marcia (Thomas) Amann, Joanne (the late Don) Tracey; nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger; grandsons, Benjamin, Joshua, Jessie, and Jared; and bonus daughter, Dianne Bowman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church in Winona, with Rev. Greg Schaefer officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 7, at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home in Winona, and beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church, Winona, or to the Foundation for Winona Area Public Schools.
Services entrusted to Fawcett Junker Funeral Home & Crematory, Winona, MN. www.fawcett-junkerfuneralhome.com
