(KWMN)- The Cotter Ramblers are chasing a section championship for the first time since 2007 as they head to Kasson for a neutral site matchup against the Pine Island Panthers this Friday the 31st at 7pm.
The Ramblers have had a rocky road in the past few years, with winless seasons in 4 of their last 10. The Ramblers have had their best season since 2005-06, when they finished 10-2 with an appearance in the state championship.
This season was also the first time the Ramblers were undefeated at home since 2005, and the first time they hosted a playoff game since 2007.
Cotter rallies behind quarterback Dan Guzzo and running back Cade Cummings, who combined for three touchdowns in the section 1AAA semifinal against Zumbrota-Mazeppa.
The Pine Island Panthers are looking to avenge their runner-up loss to the Stewartville Tigers in last year’s section championship. The Panthers completed their first undefeated regular season since at least 2005, and are looking for their first sectional championship since 2013.
Cotter and Pine Island played each other on September 18th, with Pine Island taking the first matchup 42-21. Cotter was the first team to score on the panthers, and the only team to score on them multiple times. The only other team to score against Pine Island was Lake City, who lost 47-6.
The Winona Sports Network will broadcast the game live, with the pregame starting at 6:45pm.
