(KWNO)-Seeing a rattlesnake can be an unsettling experience for many people. But timber rattlesnakes are actually fascinating and docile creatures found exclusively in the bluff country of southeast Minnesota and southwest Wisconsin. Timber rattlers are also endangered due to habitat loss and historic bounties for killing them. On October 23rd the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will host a presentation at the Winona County History Center to better educate the public about the history of timber rattlesnakes and highlight the Minnesota Timber Rattlesnake Responder Program. The conservation effort is a collaboration between local law enforcement agencies and the public to remove timber rattlers from properties and relocate them to safe areas away from people. This is a free event starting at 6:00 pm.
