(KWNO)-The Winona Police Department is investigating an alleged assault near the Maplewood Townhomes, though no charges have been filed yet. According to a WPD spokesperson, a 14-year-old boy told officers he was punched in the face by a 22-year-old man who also brandished a handgun at him. The victim told officers he was at a park near the townhomes on Wednesday when a person in a passing car started yelling at him and a friend he was with. The car then followed them when they left the park. Near the 150 block of Whitten Street, the man got out of the car where an argument and the alleged assault ensued. The car was driven by a 20-year-old female. Officers stopped the vehicle a short time later in the 900 block of West 3rd Street; the man denied assaulting the boy but did admit knowing him. No weapons were found in the vehicle. The investigation is still active.
