(KWNO)-Portions of the boat launch at Prairie Island Park near the spillway, Prairie Island Campground and the dog park will be temporarily closed for two months this winter. Xcel Energy is rebuilding an electric transmission line that runs from Goodview across the Mississippi River into Wisconsin. Equipment and materials will have to be transported requiring Xcel to have exclusive access to the area from January 1 to February 27. The campground will remain open for winter camping, but certain areas may be affected by the construction; the dog park will also remain open, but users cannot enter fenced-off areas. Access to all affected areas is expected to be restored by March 2026, according to a press release from Winona Parks and Rec.
