(KWNO)-Two parks in La Crosse are fenced off and closed to the public. Burns and Cameron Parks are closed “due to ongoing illegal activity and increased safety concerns,” according to statement from Jay Odegaard, La Crosse Director of Parks and Recreation. Some of the illegal activity is because of unsheltered individuals congregating in the parks. In a Facebook post La Crosse Mayor Shaundel Washington-Spivey said, “both sheltered and unsheltered individuals have contributed to behaviors that compromise the safety and integrity of these public spaces including selling drugs, drug use, violence, and other inappropriate conduct.” There is no timetable for the parks to reopen but Odegaard said the closures aim to “bring back a safe and welcoming atmosphere” to the parks.
