(MNN)-UCare, a major player in Minnesota’s privatized Medicare market, is scaling back operations amid financial strain. The Minneapolis-based nonprofit health insurer announced it will discontinue its Medicare Advantage plans in 2026. Currently, UCare serves approximately 158,000 Medicare Advantage members, representing about 26% of the state’s market share. With the upcoming change, these individuals will need to transition to alternative providers to maintain their privatized Medicare coverage. As part of the restructuring, UCare will reduce its workforce by 9%, resulting in around 144 job cuts. This marks the second round of layoffs this year.
