(MNN)-This week, federal health officials announced that COVID-19 vaccines are no longer recommended for healthy children and pregnant women. Dr. Michael Osterholm says this recommendation has no scientific basis whatsoever.
“For example, we have ample data demonstrating that women who are pregnant are at increased risk for serious illness, hospitalizations and deaths, and that the vaccine actually greatly reduces those risks. We have the same information for children,” said Osterholm, director of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy.
Osterholm says these new guidelines are unfortunate and limit the availability of vaccines to people who want and need them.
