(KWNO)-A Lewiston man convicted in a sextortion scheme that victimized underage girls is back at the Winona County Jail. Valentin Silva Quintana was sentenced to 27 years in federal prison for using social media apps, including Snapchat and Instagram, to threaten, sexually manipulate, and exploit more than 60 young girls in Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, New Zealand and elsewhere.
A Winona County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said Quintana was likely returned to Winona to face local charges which “may be dismissed.” According to court documents Quintana preyed on the girls by convincing them to send him a sexual photo or video or covertly recorded them engaging in sexually explicit conduct. He would then threaten to send the image to their friends and family unless the girls produced ever more graphic sexual images and videos for him. He continued this type of sextortion even as his victims wept and begged him to stop. The girls targeted were between 9 and 12 years old.
