Federal cuts could impact vulnerable students

May 12, 2025 | 10:45 AM

(MNN)-Possible education cuts at the federal level could impact Minnesota’s most vulnerable students according to state officials. Department of Education Commissioner Willie Jett says the state typically receives over $600 million from the U.S. Education Department and that funding goes towards a number of student groups, including $256 million for those with disabilities and $192 million for those from low-income backgrounds. He says those vulnerable students are on the right track and now is not the time to pull funding. This comes on the news that the 2024 high school graduation rate was the highest in Minnesota history.
