(MNN)-Governor Walz and legislative leaders continue to hold closed door meetings to discuss the budget. The deadline is three weeks from Monday.
“We face and Minnesotans face potential very deep cuts. Those are in our future and the best thing we can do right now is to pass a stable balanced budget that people can count on,” said DFL Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy.
Minnesota is already facing a six-billion-dollar deficit by the end of the decade without even factoring in any potential federal cuts.
“What we shouldn’t do in the Minnesota budget right now is continually adding cost outside of what we can afford knowing that there could be changes on a federal level. We need to be responsible in what we’re doing,” said Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth.
The 2025 Minnesota legislative session is scheduled to end on May 19.
