(MNN)-The man accused in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson is now indicted on federal charges, making him eligible for the death penalty. A federal jury returned a four-count indictment against 26-year-old Luigi Mangione on Thursday in New York City. A conviction for murder with the use of a firearm could carry a death penalty sentence. Police say Mangione gunned down 50-year-old Thompson from Maple Grove on December 4 outside a Manhattan hotel.
