Gregory A. Slabik, 54, formerly of Independence, died peacefully after a hard-fought battle with MS on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Grandview Care Center in Blair under the care of St. Croix Hospice.
Greg was born in Whitehall on November 14, 1970, to Donald and Sandra (Joern) Slabik. Always working with his hands, Greg farmed most of his life and also was employed driving Ready-Mix trucks and operating construction equipment. He had a hilarious sense of humor and was always up for cracking a good joke. In his younger years, Greg loved to be social and have a good time. He enjoyed 4-wheeling some deer hunting and was very mechanically inclined. Through all of his trials and illnesses, Greg never gave up and was a fighter to the end. His perseverance is something he was proud to pass down to his pride and joy, his son, Tyler, and his grandsons: Brice and Dayton.
Greg is survived by his son: Tyler (Heather) Slabik of Independence; grandsons: Brice and Dayton; step-granddaughter: Krystal Heiden; mother: Sandra Slabik; brother: Timothy (Jean) DuBois of La Crescent, MN; sisters: Terrie (Mike) Haefs of La Crescent, MN, Tammy (Roger) Roskos of Independence, Barb (Jim) Lambie of Gordon, and Bernadine Waldera of Arcadia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father: Donald; and brother-in-law: Jerome Waldera.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Edison Funeral Home in Independence, where there will be a prayer service beginning at noon with Father George Thayilkuzhitottu officiating.
