(KWMN)- The Winona State Women’s basketball team split their weekend doubleheader over the weekend, losing to the U of Mary on Friday Night, and getting the W against Minot State on Saturday.
In the Minot State win, the Warriors celebrated Senior day, as they honored, Lindsey Hahn, Mattie Schimenz, Naomi Breunig, Olivia Gamoke, and Stephanie Dasbach. Gamoke led those seniors in scoring in the win with 20 points.
The 1-1 split gave the Warriors the chance they needed to solidify their spot in the conference tournament this coming weekend. Right now, they sit in the final 12th spot, tied with Duluth. They hold the tiebreaker over the Bulldogs thanks to having a 2-0 head-to-head record through the season.
Still, they need to find success this weekend in order to keep that final spot. At least one win over the weekend, and one loss from Duluth would punch their ticket. A 2-0 weekend could jump them to as high as 10th if all else goes their way around the league.
The positive, is that the Warriors–for the most part–control their own destiny. The negative, they’re on the road at Moorhead and St. Cloud this weekend. Two teams they’ve already lost to before and are both fighting to host an opening round game in the conference tournament.
Head Coach for the Warriors, Ana Wurtz, joined the WSN to discuss last weekend’s Senior Day, and how they can find their way into the conference tournament.
