Section Placements Announced for Area Girls Teams, While the Boys Finish Regular Season, Scores and Matchups

(KWMN)- The Girls regular season came to an end over the weekend, as now area teams have a look at their road to the section championship game.

At the Section 1A level, the RP girls earned a #4 seed after their 15-9 finish. They beat La Crescent last Friday Night to break a two-game skid and go into the section tournament with a win. They’ll face #12 Lyle-Pacelli in the opening round on Thursday Night, and their road to the section final will be a tough one.

If they manage to fight their way to the semifinal, they’ll more likely than not face the #1 seed in Goodhue, who finished the regular season at 21-5.

Houston earned the #6 seed in the bracket, and they’ll face Kenyon-Wanamingo in the opening round.

In the Section 1AA bracket, two area teams earned top four seeds. Caledonia, after a blistering 23-3 regular season, received the top seed. They’ll face the winner of La Crescent and St. Charles in a play-in matchup.

Cotter closed out their season on Saturday in a losing effort to Rochester Lourdes, 54-42. The loss was a big one, as it jettisoned them to the #4 seed instead of the #3. Meaning, they’re on the same side of the bracket as Caledonia, and to get back to the section title game where they were one year ago, they’ll have to go through Caledonia if they make it to the semifinal.

Cotter, as the #4, will open their section play with #13 Randolph on Thursday night. If they get the win, as expected, they’ll face the winner of #5 Triton and #12 Cannon Falls. Lewiston-Altura got the #14 seed in this bracket, facing #3 Rochester Lourdes in the opening round.

The Winona Girls are still awaiting their section placements, and the rest of the area Boys teams will have their placements next week.
