La Crosse TV station losing local weather coverage

By Jason Melillo Jan 26, 2025 | 6:19 AM

A shakeup in TV weather coverage will impact stations in Wisconsin. Allen Media Group, which owns four local news stations in Wisconsin, is laying off or reassigning all of its meteorologists in 21 markets across the country, replacing them with national reports from The Weather Channel based in Atlanta, which Allen Media acquired in 2018. The announcement is being criticized over how it would impact severe weather coverage and the loss of meteorologists with strong connections to their local communities. The action will affect 10 meteorologists at Allen’s Wisconsin stations, three each at WKOW in Madison and WAOW in Wausau, and two each at WXOW in La Crosse and WQOW in Eau Claire.
