(KWNO)-The Ríos Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program at Winona Area Public Schools will begin accepting applications for the 2025-26 kindergarten class beginning Monday, Feb. 3. Ríos is Winona County’s only language immersion program. It is open and free to all students in Winona Area Public Schools. Beginning next year, the Ríos kindergarten class will be housed at Goodview Elementary School. Grades 1-4 in the Ríos program will be housed at Washington-Kosciusko Elementary beginning in the 2025-26 school year.
The goal of the program is to provide educational experiences, beginning in kindergarten and sustained through Grade 12, that support academic and linguistic development in Spanish and English and that develop students’ appreciation of their own and other culture.
In order to help families learn more about the program, Ríos teachers and administrators will be holding two informational sessions will include classroom visits and a Q and A period. The informational sessions will be held at Jefferson Elementary (where the program is currently housed) on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. The informational sessions will last approximately 45 minutes. Attending the informational session is not a requirement for admission into the program.
