Sheila M. Champeau, 78 of Winona, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Winona Health, Lake Winona Manor.
Sheila Marie was born September 16, 1946 in Winona, MN to Mary Jane (Berger) and Jess Gamble. She grew up in Rochester and graduated from Lourdes High School, Rochester. She obtained her LPN degree and was employed at Winona Health for many years.
On February 28, 1976, she married John L. Champeau. Sheila and John were very active in the DAV, where each held offices in the organization. Upon John’s retirement, they moved to Las Vegas, NV. While there, Sheila was employed in the pharmaceutical industry. John passed away February 10, 2009, and Sheila returned to Winona after a couple of years.
Sheila is survived by her brother-in-law Ray McElmury; nephews: Shawn (Carman) McElmury; Les (Heidi) McElmury; and Mike (Kelli) McElmury; six grandnieces and grandnephews: Nick (Angelina); Travis (Morgan); Jessica; Josh (Joelle); Ethan (Hannah); and Jake (Rachel); nine great grandnieces and great grandnephews: Gunnar, Hugh, Hensley, Owen, Reese, Luke, Landon, Hunter and Hudson; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, a sister Charlotte McElmury, a nephew Russ McElmury, and great grandnephews: Frederick and Robert.
A funeral liturgy will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home, Winona with Reverend Richard Dernek officiating. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
