(KWNO)-Winona Police pursued a vehicle speeding through the city and ultimately arrested the driver later the same day. According to a police spokesperson, officers on Friday morning saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on East 2nd Street and tried to pull it over. The driver fled, traveling at speeds up to 50 MPH and running multiple stop signs. Officers discontinued their pursuit after a few minutes in the interest of public safety but later found the fleeing vehicle about two hours later parked on West 5th Street. The car was towed and searched and investigators found documents identifying 44-year-old James Robert Hernstine. Hernstine was stopped in Goodview around 3:00 p.m. driving a different vehicle and arrested. Hernstine had the key to the car involved in the pursuit on him but denied fleeing from police, according to the spokesperson. Hernstine is charged with fleeing a peace officer and reckless driving, among other charges.
