The food is ready, and the table is set, but have you considered the conversation during your Thanksgiving meal? Etiquette experts warn that the topics of discussion can sometimes disrupt the fun of the holiday gathering.
“We’re going to stay away from religion. We’re going to stay away from politics. Anything gross. Don’t come to the table and talk about medical problems, medical issues, what prescriptions you’re on. We don’t want to hear about it at the table,” says Julie Frantz from “Everyday Etiquette.”
Frantz also suggests that hosts avoid greeting guests by talking about how hard they worked on the dinner or the early hour they woke up. Doing so creates a negative first impression as the party begins. Instead, she advises smiling and warmly welcoming people into your home.
