The annual Salvation Army Toy Lift sends holiday gifts to children of incarcerated parents. The program keeps the Salvation Army’s name out of the picture, making the gift even more special, coming straight from the parent.
“This program allows for that connection during Christmas time in which, obviously, they don’t get a chance to pick out gifts for their kids. They can’t go shopping for toys and things like that, so it allows them to actually be able to do that, and it just says they care about their children,” says Charles Berry with Northern Division Correctional Services.
This year’s program was run in cooperation with the federal women’s prison in Waseca, giving gifts to over 500 children.
