In 1966, The Monkees’ self-titled debut album hits #1 in America
Rod Stewart’s Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright) hits #1 in 1976
In 1980, Kenny Rogers’ crossover hit Lady reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100
Madonna released her second studio album, Like A Virgin, in 1984, her first #1 on the US albums chart.
The Dirty Dancing soundtrack hits #1 in 1987 where it would remain for 18 weeks!

Love Me Tender, starring Elvis Presley in his acting debut, was released in US theaters in 1956.
In 1982, Prince began his 1999 tour with a show in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The opening acts are two groups he put together in Minneapolis: The Time and Vanity 6.
Michael Jackson’s 14-minute film Thriller debuts in 1983 at the Metro Crest Theater in Los Angeles. Directed by John Landis, the short film will become the most popular video in MTV history when the network begins airing it.
The “Rock Of Ages” episode of Married With Children features guest stars Robbie Krieger (The Doors), Mark Lindsay (Paul Revere & the Raiders), Peter Noone (Herman’s Hermits), Spencer Davis, Richie Havens, and John Sebastian (The Lovin’ Spoonful). Along with Al Bundy (who plays the sandwich), they form Old Aid and perform “We Are The Old” in 1992.
In 2007, The first episode of Daryl Hall’s show Live From Daryl’s House airs on the web, with Hall performing from his home in Millerton, New York
A near tragedy also occurred:
Ron Wood, formerly of The Faces and currently of The Rolling Stones, is badly injured when hit by a car in London, breaking both legs in 1990.
It wouldn’t be rock history without some controversy:
Jim Morrison was arrested by the FBI for repeatedly prodding a stewardess in 1969.
Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli admitted they didn’t sing any of Girl You Know It’s True in 1990. Later that same week, they were stripped of their Grammy
In 1991, Michael Jackson’s worldwide premiere of his “Black or White” music video outraged parents because of its violence and sexual innuendo. During the video, the King of Pop simulated masturbation, smashed a car with a crowbar, and grabbed his crotch
