(KWMN)-Winona State suffered a heartbreaking loss to the University of Minnesota-Duluth last Saturday, 42-38, on a game winning touchdown from the Bulldogs with 23 seconds to play.
In the high scoring shootout, both offenses were singing, but Duluth got the last laugh after WSU settled for a field goal with under three minutes to play. The Warrior Defense was unable to stop the attack from QB Kyle Walljasper, who finished with 247 yards on the ground and scored the game winner. Walljasper was named NSIC offensive player of the week.
Now at 4-5, the Warriors will look to finish their regular season on a high note, with two road games to close out the year. They’ll first head to Marshall, Minn. to take on Southwest Minnesota State University, and then make the trek to Minot to face Minot State the following weekend.
Head Coach for the Warriors, Brian Bergstrom, joined the Winona Sports Network on Upon Further Review to discuss the loss, and what’s next for the Warriors as they enter the final weeks of the season.
