(KWMN)- Section tournaments across the state of Minnesota begin today for High School Football.
Rushford-Peterson earned a #5 seed in the section 1A bracket, setting up a rematch from last Wednesday night with the #4 seed in Wabasha-Kellogg. Coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. with Kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. on the Winona Sports Network, FM 99.3 and streaming live online at winonaradio.com and on the Winona Radio App.
WK got the victory over Rushford on MEA night to the tune of 14-12. It was the second straight heartbreaker for the Trojans, who lost in the final moments to Lewiston-Altura a week prior. Albeit the two losses, there was plenty to be positive about as they enter section play.
The winner of this quarterfinal matchup will move on to–more likely than not–face the #1 seed in the section in Goodhue. Who rank 4th in the entire class. In fact, Section 1A is riddled with top teams in Class A. Blooming Prairie, the #2 seed in the section, is ranked seventh in the Class. While Fillmore Central, the #3 seed is ranked ninth.
It will undoubtedly be a tall task for the Trojans to get through this section, but if they do, they’ll be battle tested for the State Tournament.
One of the bigger questions heading into tonight for Rushford-Peterson, will be the Quarterback. Cayden Lea has suited up in relief of Senior Caden Johnson for the last four games, after Johnson injured his shoulder in the loss to Fillmore Central. Head Coach, Joel Hinke said earlier in the season they’d hope to have Johnson back come playoffs, but his status remains uncertain.
Catch all the action tonight on the WSN, coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
