Winhawk Football and Other Area Teams Close Out Regular Season on MEA Night as Sections Lie Around the Corner

By Jake Litman Oct 16, 2024 | 1:11 PM

(KWMN)- The Winona Senior High Winhawks headline a long list of area teams in action tonight as MEA night closes out the regular season.

Winona, fresh off their second win of the season to move to 2-5, will host the 0-7 Rochester Century Panthers tonight from Paul Gield Field.

Winona will look to bring momentum into the section tournament that begins next week. With a rough stretch in the middle of the season, the Winhawks lost five straight, including three to section opponents in Byron, Faribault, and Kasson-Mantorville. It was the same script on the season as one year ago, where Winona lost to the same teams, but put together three straight wins to close out their season.

Winona will look to do something similar this time around, just with two straight wins to close out the season. Their section placement is already locked up, as they’ll earn the #4 seed in the section and will face #5 Austin in a rematch next Tuesday. Winner will advance to play the #1 seed in the Section.

Tonight’s regular season finale will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. with our coverage beginning at 6:30 on the Winona Sports Network, FM 99.3 and streaming right here on winonaradio.com and on the Winona Radio App.
