I know many people joke and laugh at the idea of yelling to someone to go “touch grass” when they seemingly seem out of touch or are too connected with the internet world, but I am here to tell you with all the love in my heart; please touch grass, it may save you.
As the winter months approach, a gloom comes overhead knowing that we are a few short weeks away from turning back our clocks and climbing into bed as soon as we finish dinner. I think that we can defeat the inevitable winter blues by making sure, that even in the cold we are taking time to connect to momma earth.
Nature has healing powers that you can use just by taking five minutes of your day to slow down, breathe in the air, put your boots on the ground, and maybe even stare at a cloud. All of these can save you from an existential meltdown. I encourage you to bear the cold or even sit in your heated parked car to just glare at the sun, hug a tree, and express that gratitude. I promise it will help calm you down, ease your anger, and bring a little joy into your day.
Just remember that we are all in this together. We all live in this bitterly cold area for a reason, and that reason being the beauty that it holds, and the community that holds you when you’re feeling down. So even if the grass gets covered by layers of snow remember to thank yourself for making it another day in a Midwest winter.
