(KWMN)- The Winona State football team dropped to 1-2 last Saturday after a 28-21 loss to Wayne State at Maxwell Field.

After a 21-7 deficit, the Warriors turned things around on both sides of the ball. They climbed their way back into the game with two fourth quarter scores to tie it up at 21 a piece with just under six minutes to play. A quick drive from Wayne State broke the deadlock as the Wildcats took a 28-21 lead with just over three minutes on the clock. Winona State had a chance in the final moments, with a shot to the endzone from Cole Stenstrom to Sylvere Campbell that landed incomplete, and the Warriors lost.

Stenstrom had an adequate day, throwing 10 of his 18 passes for completions and 197 yards with three scores. The run-game for the Warriors was the story for the offense, however, garnering over 150 yards on 39 carries.

In fact, looking at the box score, it’s shocking the Warriors managed to lose. They out gained Wayne State in rushing, passing, and total yards. They had more first down, less punts, and nearly an equal time of possession.

The difference, though, a blocked field goal by Wayne State, and two turnovers form the Warrior offense derailed the prefer outcome of this one.

Now at 1-2, the Warriors will hit the road to take on Northern State this Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. Northern enters the matchup at 0-4.

Head Coach for Warrior Football, Brian Bergstrom, joined the Winona Sports Network to talk about last week’s loss, and how to bounce back.
