(KWNO)-A Winona company was scammed out of more than $50,000 through a phishing scam. An employee at Behrens Manufacturing was contacted via email on Monday afternoon by someone claiming to be with one of the company’s regular suppliers. The message requested $53,000 be sent to a new account. Shortly after the money was sent a second request to change accounts arrived, making the employee suspicious. Management at Behrens was informed and contacted the police. No additional money was sent. The email address of the scammers was one letter off from the email of the supplier regularly used by Behrens.
