MN high school students taking advantage of free college classes

Sep 16, 2024 | 10:23 AM

More Minnesota students are taking advantage of programs that allow them take college courses for free while still in high school. University of Minnesota program director Emily Hanson says students in 240 schools earned college credits last year that provided a 40-million-dollar value.

“It is 40 million dollars’ worth of tuition that’s ending up on those transcripts. And that’s not just a value only if someone comes to the U of M system. Those credits can transfer to wherever students go…whether that’s a two-year school, a four-year-old school or even outside of Minnesota,” said Hanson.

Hanson says these programs are available statewide and recommends students and parents talk to their school counselor about possible opportunities.
