Allen Paul Abts, 91 of Fountain City, WI, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at home with family at his side.

Allen was born April 28, 1933, in Fountain City, WI to Dora (Rothering) and Emil Abts. Allen was the ninth of ten children growing up under the watchful eye and the tender care of seven big sisters and aside his two brothers and partners in many childhood adventures and misadventures, Cleo and Nathan.

Allen was a lifelong resident of Fountain City, and he never lost his love for the hills, running, climbing, hiking and hunting them with his brothers when he was young, and eventually, with his five children and his grandchildren.

Allen worked for the Buffalo County Highway Department until he retired in 1995. He was a member of the Fountain City Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years. In retirement Allen filled every day with a variety of creative endeavors: from building birdhouses, painting on glass, wood burning, making mosaics, and more. He also loved having one of the family dogs as a companion by his side five days a week as he did doggy day care for his sons/grandsons.

Allen was preceded in death by his son William John, seven siblings and is survived by two sons Wayne (Kay), Bruce (Lisa); two daughters Betty Mielke (Paul), Heidi Emanuel (Bob Amico) and 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Ethel and his brother Nathan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish, Fountain City, WI. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Fountain City, WI.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. at the church on Monday.
