(KWNO)-A murder suspect stopped by Winona Police on Friday died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Winona PD was informed by the Eau Claire Police Department earlier in the week that 59-year-old Scott Adam Jenkins may be in the southeast Minnesota area and was wanted in connection with a homicide in Eau Claire. Jenkins was alleged to be in possession of a handgun and considered to be armed and dangerous.
On Friday evening a WPD officer saw Jenkins vehicle on Highway 43 in Winona and pursued it onto I-90. Officers pulled Jenkins over and gave verbal commands for him to exit the vehicle. Jenkins stayed in the vehicle and when officers approached, they found him “in the driver’s seat slumped over with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to a statement from WPD. Jenkins was confirmed to be dead, and a handgun was recovered from the vehicle. Eau Claire PD was notified and are conducting follow-up investigation into their case.
