(KWMN)- Legion state tournaments have begun for some area teams, while others await their schedule for sub-state.
The tournament consists of teams participating in a double elimination sub-state tournament in order to qualify for the State Tournament to crown a Legion Champion. As it stands right now, the Rushford-Peterson Post 94 in the senior division is the only area legion team that has begun their sub-state tournament.
Senior Post 94 finished the regular season at 5-8, they earned the 6th seed in the East division and faced St. Charles in the first round of the Southeast sub-state tournament. Post 94 waltzed to an easy 7-2 win over St. Charles. Riley Tesch, Cayden Lea, and Cole Thompson each had two RBIs in the win, while Caden Johnson earned the win on the bump in four scoreless innings.
Post 94 advances to the winner’s bracket quarterfinals, where they’ll face Pine Island, a team they’ve already beaten once before just 11 days ago, 8-6. First pitch in the quarterfinal matchup is slated for tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. in Pine Island, winner would advance to face either Caledonia or Eyota next week, while the loser heads into the loser’s bracket to face Lewiston later in the day tomorrow, still from Pine Island.
The Junior Post 94 team will find out their seedings over the weekend for their respective sub-state tournament, as they look to make it back-to-back trips to State. Their first game will be next Wednesday.
As for the Winona LeJetz, they too await their seedings, as they’ll be playing in their sub-state next week as well.
