School bus crashes on way to field trip, students taken to hospital

(KWNO)-A school bus taking Winona Middle School students on a field trip crashed in Fillmore County on Friday morning. A statement from Winona Area Public Schools says the bus was bringing 6th graders to Mystery Cave and Forestville State Park when it tipped over and came to rest on its side.  Four students were injured and taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.  Other students and staff with minor injuries were treated on site.

Ready Bus Company, which provided the buses for the field trip, sent another bus to bring students back to WMS. According to the statement, some kids did not want to get back on the bus and “alternate forms of transportation were being arranged.” Families can contact the attendance secretary at 507-494-1030 if they want to pick up their child(ren) early.
