(KWNO)-A Winona man allegedly broke into a house and later assaulted a police officer. According to a spokesperson 41-year-old Percy Scott Topness on Friday around 11:55 p.m. burglarized a home in the 1100 block of Marion Street. The owner of the property, who was not home at the time. saw Topness on a surveillance video and called police. Topness allegedly stole a bottle of wine from the residence. Police had contact with Topness earlier on Friday when a caller reported he was lying on train tracks and acting erratically. In the course of responding to that call, officers found Topness at his residence and he allegedly threw something thorough a window while officers were parked outside the house. When police responded the burglary, Topness was intoxicated and taken to the hospital. While being evaluated he headbutted an officer in the forehead. Topness is currently being charged with assault.
